In ancient Egypt, Sobek was a deity with a very complex nature. both aggressive and protective. He is associated with the Nile crocodile and is usually represented as a human with a crocodile head. Sobek was worshipped in the Old Kingdom (c. 2686– 2181 BCE) ), but gained prominence in the Middle Kingdom (c.2055–1650 BCE) when he became linked with Horus the falcon headed god. This connection put Sobek closer to the creation mythology of Osiris and Isis and he morphed in to a solar deity. In this time period tributes to him attained greater prominence.
