Philosopher Isaiah Berlin published an essay called,”The Hedgehog and the Fox” in it he expands on the notion attributed to the ancient Greek poet Archilochus, “the fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing”. He explains the difference between writers and thinkers that have contrasting views,(fox) macro/big picture and (hedgehog) micro/closely focused.
However the original quote may simply mean that the fox, for all his cunning, is defeated by the hedgehog's one defense.
